
Design and manufacture of magnetic couplings:
The ERNEO team has expertise in the design and manufacture of magnetic couplings. These non-contact devices, composed of two rotating elements operating at the same speed, offer a reliable alternative to dynamic seals, especially in environments exposed to aggressive fluids or where high-pressure differentials are present.
These magnetic couplings can operate over a wide speed range and can be designed in cylindrical (radial flux), discoidal (axial flux) or even linear structures.
Design and manufacturing of magnetic couplings:
Magnetic couplings are passive devices with a torque limit known as the “stall torque”. Beyond this value, the coupling slips or stalls and the power is no longer transmitted (the torque becomes oscillatory). A certain safety margin in relation to the value of the stall torque is therefore necessary to ensure safe operation in the event of an overload or a strong acceleration. This margin is assessed on a case-by-case basis depending on the application.
Magnetic gears: an innovative alternative to mechanical gears
In addition to magnetic couplings, ERNEO develops magnetic gears. These devices, using soft ferromagnetic materials and magnets, offer high levels of efficiency and are alternatives to mechanical gears for applications where, for example, there is a need to limit maintenance operations (no wear, no lubrication of gears). As with electrical machines or magnetic couplings, the mechanical architecture can be cylindrical, discoidal or linear. In all cases, the structure is made up of three parts: a fixed part and two moving parts. The choice of integration of the different parts (fixed part on the outside or not) is a design choice.
The gear ratio is configurable by design and can therefore be adapted to the needs of the application. Too low or too high ratios can be a constraining design parameter, so this value is discussed with the customer on a case-by-case basis.
